Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Officially Opens Vicky’s

This morning, the San Pedro Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony aboard Battleship IOWA to officially put Vicky’s Doghouse on the map.

Our talented Chef Cesar represented the ship to receive certificates of recognition from the Chamber, Councilmember Joe Buscaino, City of Los Angeles District 15, Assemblymember Patrick O’Donnell, California 70th District, and Janice Hahn, Los Angeles County Supervisor 4th District.

We also announced the winner in our “Design a Dog” contest. The latest addition to our menu is the “MACarena” – a Nathan’s hot dog topped with homemade mac ‘n’ cheese, bacon bits, and one more secret ingredient, toasted to perfection. This decadent delight was invented by Karla Yanneth from Wilmington, CA (pictured above with Chef Cesar).

Now through the end of October, head over to Vicky’s and give Karla’s concoction a try. And tell all your friends: FREE ADMISSION TO THE FANTAIL when you eat at Vicky’s. Incredible food and an amazing view. Come and get it!

Trick or Treat… Battleship Style

This Halloween season, come aboard Battleship IOWA for FREE to enjoy candy, games, crafts, and more.

Come in costume and trick or treat at our candy stations, play carnival games to collect Halloween Vicky the Dog stickers, and apply fun science concepts while building your own light-up wand, flying a spooky kite, and launching a spider rocket! Family friendly Halloween movies will be playing on the media wall at the stern of the ship and IOWA crew members will be sharing spooky story books throughout the night.

Battleship IOWA’s Halloween STEMebration will take place Saturday, October 30th from 6pm – 10pm.

Freedom of the Seas Approaching Fast

Just a couple of weeks left till our inaugural Freedom of the Seas event. Still time to join us for what promises to be an amazing event. Add your name to the individual ticket wait list here.

This Week Your Battleship Crew…

  • Supported a film shoot Monday – Wednesday. We can’t tell you who it was yet, but if you were to guess a major network show that is presenting us as Battleship IOWA Museum… you would be correct. We’ll give you more details as soon as we can. Stay tuned!
  • Speaking of film shoots… we hosted another little show called SEAL Team back in the spring. We lowered the guns on Turret 3 to accommodate their needs and they’ve been down since then. We raised them again this week in time to provide an impressive backdrop for our Freedom of the Seas event.
  • Sprang into action when a particularly gnarly surge caused cracks in both of our aft brows (gangways). Within a few hours we had a crane on hand to lift them off the ship onto the pier, where our Ops team will complete repairs and have them back in place as soon as possible. In the meantime expect to use the forward brow when you stop by the ship.

When we say you never know what you’ll encounter when you come to the ship, we’re not kidding! It’s been a heck of a week. We’ll be sitting on the fantail, taking a break and munching on yummy stuff from Vicky’s if you need us.
