SHARING THEIR STORIES AND SALUTING THEIR SERVICE

We are honored to welcome veterans aboard Battleship IOWA daily for a visit aboard the Battleship of Presidents. The entire Battleship IOWA crew is very appreciative for the service of men and women from all branches of the military.  We welcome every veteran aboard (that we are made aware of), so please join us in providing the veteran in your family a memorable experience.  We know first hand the impact that a welcome aboard IOWA means to our veterans.

Recently, a very touching video filmed by IOWA Volunteer Coordinator Sue Schmidt has gone viral through Facebook and has been featured throughout the media.  The video featured the Chief Selects from the Fleet Antisubmarine Warfare Training Station singing Anchors Away to Ernie Thompson, a US Navy WWII Veteran and the Grandfather of Jonathan Williams, President & CEO of Battleship IOWA Museum.  Veterans appreciation is very common with the IOWA, our supporters, and partners; we never expected the video to get as much attention as it has.  This is a perfect example of what simple acts of kindness can do for a veteran.  Grandpa (Ernie) told his Grandson that it was one of the best days of his life.

Let us know in advance of your visit by emailing marketing@labattleship.com or calling 877-446-9261 ext. 706.
